Virgin Media customers have blockbuster broadband usage month in November

On average, Virgin Media customers were downloading 456GB and uploading 39GB per day!

Thursday, December 31stWith remote working and online socialising having become the norm for a lot of us across the country, fast and reliable broadband connectivity has never been more important in our daily lives. Be it for work, rest or play, our ability to connect online is vital. November was one of our busiest months since lockdown began with our broadband customers downloading over 160 million GB of data for the month, that’s enough to fill 622,175 iPhone 12s.

November saw increased gaming with Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War released and new consoles on the market while the level 5 lockdown meant so many more customers relied on their broadband connection for both entertainment and work.

The importance of Virgin Media’s broadband is highlighted in research that showed that almost two thirds of respondents would choose their broadband over a foreign holiday while unsurprisingly 54% of people said their broadband is more important to them and their family than before COVID-19 impacted their lives

The research surveyed over 1,000 people aged 18 and upwards across all regions of the country.

Paul Higgins, Vice-President of Commercial at Virgin Media Ireland said: “Our customers are downloading 75% more today than they were pre-COVID 19 and uploading close to 80% more. We’ve also seen daytime traffic double in size at its peak. This continued increase in data usage is not surprising but the importance of a fast and reliable home broadband connection can’t be overstated.

Our continued investment in our network ensures our customers can confidently carry on with their increased usage in whatever guise it takes.

At Virgin Media, we are relentless in our efforts to support and develop new and faster ways to keep everyone connected, and this includes our recent 1Gb broadband boost which will help keep even the busiest of homes connected.
