
Monika Nowak‑Toporowicz is Chief Technology and Innovation Officer at Virgin Media Ireland, responsible for technology, networks, IT delivery and operational performance across the organisation.
With more than 25 years of experience across multiple European countries in telecommunications, IT and digital infrastructure, she has led major transformation programmes in Ireland, Poland, Slovakia and across Liberty Global’s international footprint.
She is recognised for modernising mission-critical platforms, delivering large-scale digital and network transformations, and driving operational excellence through automation, data‑driven decision-making and AI‑enabled operating models. Her leadership has strengthened service reliability, enhanced customer experience and established resilient, high‑performing technology organisations.
Monika is an advocate for diversity in technology and has supported multiple women‑in‑tech development initiatives. She holds an MSc in IT, advanced executive education from INSEAD, IMD and Tuck, and is currently completing an MSc in Psychology.
Sebastian Strutt is Director of Strategy at Virgin Media Ireland. In this role, he works with the CEO and leadership team to set strategic priorities and drive cross-functional initiatives from concept to delivery.
Seb leads Virgin Media Ireland’s corporate strategy and corporate development agenda, and coordinates messaging and results discussions with Liberty Global’s executive leadership team. He also leads the preparation of executive-level presentations for group forums and presents the elements relating to corporate strategy.
Seb joined Virgin Media Ireland in March 2025. Prior to joining the business, he worked in Strategy and Corporate Development at Nexfibre and Liberty Global. Earlier in his career, Seb supported investors and operators through commercial due diligence at Analysys Mason and Strategy& across a range of digital infrastructure investments.
Seb started his career in external audit at PwC and is a Chartered Accountant (ICAEW) and holds an MEng in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Bristol.
Tony Hanway has been Chief Executive Officer of Virgin Media Ireland since 2015. Virgin Media is Ireland’s leading connected entertainment provider offering market-leading Broadband, TV, fixed, and mobile phone services to the Irish consumer and B2B market. Virgin Media Ireland also incorporates Ireland’s leading commercial broadcaster, Virgin Media Television.
Before joining Liberty Global he spent a decade at O2/Telefonica where he held a number of board-level roles including Chief Executive Officer of O2 Ireland, Consumer Director of O2 Ireland, Consumer Director of Telefonica O2 Czech Republic, and Chief Commercial Officer of O2 Deutschland. From 1995 to 2005 Tony held senior positions at the internet pioneer AOL (UK) where he was an executive board member, Vice President of Customer Care and Managing Director, AOL Europe Operations Ltd.
Tony holds an MSc in HRM, Training and Performance Management from the University of Leicester.
Áine Ní Chaoindealbháin is the Managing Director of Virgin Media Television, leading Ireland’s only independent national commercial public service broadcaster. She oversees a portfolio of free‑to‑air channels and digital services, driving the organisation’s strategic direction, public service remit, and continued growth in an increasingly competitive and digitally focused media environment.
Prior to her appointment as Managing Director, Áine served as Deputy Managing Director from 2021 and previously as Director of Operations, having joined Virgin Media Television in 2017. In these roles she led major operational innovation, steered technical transformation, and represents the broadcaster in key policy forums, including Oireachtas committees and national media sector consultations.
Áine began her career in the independent production sector before progressing into senior roles across Setanta Sports, Sky News Ireland and UTV Ireland, where she served as General Manager. This diverse experience has shaped a leadership style grounded in editorial integrity, operational rigour, and commercial acumen. A strong advocate for media plurality and sustainable public service broadcasting, Áine continues to champion a fair, future‑focused media landscape, ensuring that Virgin Media Television remains a trusted, innovative, and impactful voice in Irish society.
Áine holds a BA in English and Irish, an Ard Dioplóma i gCumarsáid Fheidhmeach from the National University of Ireland, and a Postgraduate Diploma in Broadcasting from Technological University Dublin.
Peter McCarthy serves as General Counsel and Vice President of Corporate Affairs and People. He is a key member of the Senior Management Team leading the Legal, Corporate Affairs and People functions across Virgin Media Ireland and Virgin Media Television. Peter also acts as Director and Company Secretary for all Irish Virgin Media entities.
With over 20 years’ industry experience, Peter has a strong track record in commercial negotiations, regulatory leadership, compliance, procurement, people management, and transformation programmes. His leadership has spanned major strategic initiatives including GDPR, Brexit, COVID-related compliance, and multiyear organisational culture and performance programmes.
Peter is a recognised legal leader, having been listed on the Legal 500 GC Powerlist (Ireland) from 2015–2025. He has served as lead negotiator for the exclusive use of the Virgin Media brand in Ireland, key wholesale network partnership agreements, and the TV3/UTV acquisition and legal integration.
Peter is a registered solicitor in Ireland, England and Wales and holds a BA LLB from NUI Galway and a Diploma in Information Technology and Intellectual Property Law.
Aidan Darcy is an accomplished senior executive and currently serves as Vice President, Wholesale and Business at Virgin Media Ireland. He leads the company’s strategy for entering the fixed wholesale market, launched in 2023, overseeing all commercial and operational activity for the division.
Under his leadership, Virgin Media has successfully established and grown its wholesale business. Aidan also manages the Business division, a core growth engine for Virgin Media, where he has consistently delivered double-digit growth since taking responsibility in 2016.
Aidan began his career with Virgin Media in 2004 in a series of engineering roles before spending a year with euNetworks as a pre‑sales engineer. Since returning to Virgin Media in 2009, he has held positions across product management, pre‑sales, and public sector leadership, progressing to Head of the Business Division in 2016 and later joining the Senior Management Team as Vice President in 2021.
He holds a BEng in Telecommunications from DCU and an MSc in Business Leadership from UCC.
Roelant is Chief Financial Officer of Virgin Media Ireland, where he leads the company’s financial strategy, capital allocation, and financial performance. As a member of the executive leadership team, he supports the strategic development and continued growth of one of Ireland’s leading telecommunications and entertainment providers.
Roelant has deep international experience across telecommunications, technology, media and finance. Prior to joining Virgin Media Ireland, he served as Deputy CFO of VodafoneZiggo, the Netherlands leading a converged cable and mobile operator and a joint venture between Liberty Global and Vodafone Group, where he played a key role in financial strategy, capital markets activities and performance management.
Earlier in his career, Roelant held several CFO roles within the telecoms and technology sector, including at iBASIS in the United States, PanTel in Hungary, and several roles at KPN in the Netherlands. He also worked as an investment banker at ABN AMRO MeesPierson, advising telecommunications, media and technology clients on mergers and acquisitions, and capital market transactions.
Roelant holds an MSc in Business Economics from the University of Amsterdam and has completed executive education programmes at Wharton, Harvard Business School, IMD, and INSEAD.
Paul Higgins is Chief Commercial Officer at Virgin Media Ireland, responsible for leading the company’s end-to-end consumer business across all commercial functions including sales, marketing, product, digital channels, and customer value management, in addition to the consumer operations and customer service areas. Since joining Virgin Media in 2014, Paul has held a series of senior leadership roles including Head of Digital, Director of Consumer, and now Chief Commercial Officer playing a central role in shaping the company’s growth agenda and customer experience.
Appointed to the Senior Management Team in 2020, Paul brings over 25 years of commercial leadership experience spanning the telecommunications, media, technology, and FMCG sectors across Ireland, the UK, and Australia. Known for a strong customer-first mindset and a relentless focus on execution, he has been instrumental in driving Virgin Media’s commercial performance and delivering innovative connectivity and entertainment experiences to households nationwide.
Paul represents Virgin Media externally through industry engagements and is recognised for his collaborative leadership style and ability to deliver sustainable commercial outcomes in highly competitive markets. He is based in Dublin and is part of the Liberty Global leadership community shaping the future of next generation connectivity in Ireland.
Paul holds a BA in Business and Marketing from the University of Central Lancashire and a Certificate in Executive Leadership from Manchester Business School.
Gary Disley is the Chief of Staff at Virgin Media Ireland. As a member of the Senior Management Team, Gary’s role focuses on translating organisational priorities into clear, executable strategy and enabling data-driven decision‑making. His responsibilities span executive operations, leadership alignment, and governance.
Gary brings extensive experience across telecommunications, technology, strategy, and commercial P & L management, gained both in Ireland and internationally. His career includes senior leadership roles with Telefónica O2 and Eir in Ireland, spanning a range of commercial and marketing functions.
Before joining Virgin Media Ireland, Gary held several executive roles with Ooredoo, a multinational telecommunications group headquartered in Doha, Qatar. Most recently, he served as Executive Director of Strategy and Enterprise Program Office, reporting directly to the CEO.
Gary holds an MBA in International Management from Massey University, New Zealand.
