‘VOOM 2016’ competition wants Irish businesses to pitch their ideas to Richard Branson

Thursday 18th April 2016: Virgin Media Business is today launching a compelling new range of broadband and phone offers for start-ups and SMEs including Virgin’s best business plans ever with superfast broadband speeds of 100, 200, 300 and 400 Mbps.

With faster speeds for unbeatable prices, the four new broadband and phone service bundles offer SMEs the best value for money. The packages also include telephone services with calls included and no line rental fee attached.

Gavan Smyth, Vice President at Virgin Media Business said, “At Virgin we believe your broadband should work as hard as you, helping you to grow your business and reducing your overall costs of operation. As one of the largest B2B telecommunications providers, our extensive fibre network enables superfast broadband speeds and we’re able to tailor the most competitive offers and services for businesses of all sizes. SMEs make up a large part of the economy and we need to support them as they grow. We’re doing that by enabling them to digitise their offering to provide even better services to their customers.”

Research carried out for Virgin Media Ireland by Amárach Research shows that almost three-quarters (74%) of SMEs now have a business website. Of these, 36% are e-commerce enabled. That means that 27% of Irish SMEs are now engaging in e-commerce which is very positive considering that the EU average is around 18%.

“It’s clear that Irish businesses are recognising the value of an online presence as well as the e-commerce channel”, said Gavan Smyth.  “At Virgin Media, we’re committed to supporting Irish businesses so that they can maximise their digital business potential.”

VOOM 2016

Virgin Media Business is also currently searching for the most innovative and exciting businesses through its dedicated pitch competition for start-ups and SMEs – VOOM 2016. The competition gives entrepreneurs and small and medium businesses the opportunity to pitch their ideas to Richard Branson to win a slice of a prize fund worth over €1.2million.

Gavan Smyth said, “VOOM is open to promising Irish businesses to enter and compete for the funds and support which the winners will receive. This is an entirely merit based programme so the most innovative, disruptive and original business concepts are the ones that could make it to the top to present their case to Richard Branson in person.

It’s now time to enter and see how far you can bring your ideas. It’s a great way of trialling your business strategy. We’re really looking forward to seeing the brightest and the best Irish companies taking part in VOOM 2016.”
