UPC Business delivers High-Speed Fibre Powered Broadband to NUIG Corrib Village

First student village in Ireland to recieve a dedicated fibre service

Dublin, Tuesday 3rd March 2015: UPC Business today announced the switch-on of an advanced dedicated Fibre Node to provide uninterrupted bandwidth services in NUI Galway’s Corrib Village campus accommodation for their students. The development provides students with superfast 50Mbps download speeds while the administration offices at Corrib Village will have speeds of 250Mbps and multiple telephone lines.

Corrib Village is the first student village in the country to be provided with a Fibre Node offering a dedicated broadband connection. This delivers high-speed broadband access across the campus including apartments, recreational areas, on-site facilities and administration offices.

Corrib Village’s administration offices will receive a significant boost in services thanks to the installation of UPC’s Business Fibre Power Broadband, giving access to superfast speeds of 250Mbps. Students, as well as visitors to the campus during the summer period, will now also benefit from increased speeds of 50Mbps.

In addition to the enhancement of broadband speeds, UPC Business will deliver advanced triple-play services to the campus with over 175 individual digital TV outlet points and multiple phone lines, including free line rental.

Karl Reinhardt, General Manager, Corrib Village, National University of Ireland, Galway, said, “We’re constantly enhancing campus life for students and our summer residents. The availability of high-speed broadband ranks continuously as one of the most important needs in services provided. Whether for educational or recreational purposes, the introduction of a dedicated fibre node will be a significant benefit to residents, as well as our own staff.”

Gary David Jordan, Senior Manager for SoHo/SME at UPC Ireland said, ”We have invested over half a billion euro upgrading our fibre power network to world class standards. We’re constantly improving the performance of our products and the affordability of our digital services for customers. This development will equip students with the vital technological resources they need to develop in today’s tech driven era and also act as a major draw for NUIG when students are assessing their third-level education options.”
