Virgin Media saddle up for ‘The Big Ride for Africa 2016’

Tuesday 21st June 2016: Today, a team from Virgin Media Ireland will set off on The Big Ride for Africa 2016 to raise awareness for the Lessons for Life Foundation, a children’s charity that funds education projects in some of the world’s developing countries.

This year the team will be joining up with their Virgin Media UK counterparts to ride 273km in just two days from Chigwell in London to Harwich, across to the Hook of Holland and then on to their final destination, Mechelen in Belgium. Along the way the team will pedal through the beautiful English countryside, face 1,570m of hill climbing, take their sea legs on an overnight ferry across the Channel before riding the final leg through the Dutch scenery to Mechelen.

The six-strong team will be taking on the journey in aid of the children of St. Monica Muluto School in Kenya to fundraise to help send children to school.

Gary David Jordan, Senior Manager SoHo and SME Division from Virgin Media Ireland who is taking part in the cycle said, “Lessons for Life is such a fantastic charity that makes a real difference in the lives of thousands of children across the developing world, ensuring that they are given the opportunity to have a good education.

“We’re excited to get on the road now with riders from 12 different countries. There is a real air of excitement. Although 273km seems like a daunting task, it’s a small journey to make when you consider what a difference it will be making to lives of these children.”

This cycle is just one of six different routes across Europe and the US that are taking place to raise €1.3 million to help send 10,000 children to school.
